Peter Handford

Peter's Story

Peter has recently retired after spending 38 years working in the public sector in a number of different finance related roles and for the last 14 years has operated at board level as a Director of Finance & ICT at a county council and then as a Chief Financial Officer at an NHS community trust.  Peter has been a CIPFA qualified accountant since 1991 and is now a Fellow of the institute.  During his time working within local government he came across many instances where small impacts could materially affect children's outcomes and was always concerned to ensure that national resources were distributed fairly. He was part of various lobbying initiatives and pressure groups that tried to influence government priorities and has taken part in visits to government ministers and local MP's over many years.

Peter believes in giving every child the best life chance possible and that individuality and opportunity should be allowed to shine in a caring and supportive environment.  Peter is also a trustee at North East Derbyshire Citizen's Advice Bureau and treasurer to a parish church.
